49381 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for the Public Service: By agency, what were the year-on-year reductions in contractor and consultant spending from 2023/24 to 2024/25, and which, if any agencies recorded increases?

Hon Judith Collins: I am advised that the expenditure by agencies for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 years is available on the Public Service Commission’s website at the following link: https://www.publicservice.govt.nz/data/workforce-data/public-sector-composition/workforce-size This information can be found under public sector composition. From 2023/24 to 2024/25, changes in OPEX by agency varied from a $175 million decrease to a $5.8 million increase (totalling a $641 million, or 34%, year-on-year decrease). Of the 102 agencies included in the baseline of the Government’s targeted reduction in OPEX, 23 recorded an increase from 2023/24 to 2024/25. See attached for detail by agency.
