46385 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What is the number of complaints made by people in prison to Corrections, broken down by prison during July?
Hon Mark Mitchell: People in prison are encouraged to resolve complaints at the lowest possible level by speaking with staff in their unit in the first instance and raising a PC.01 prisoner complaint. There are also a number of other avenues where people in prison or their advocates can submit a complaint to Corrections’ National Office or to external monitoring agencies. For the purposes of responding to the member’s question, this has been interpreted to relate to the internal PC.01 prisoner complaints system, IR.07 (allegations against staff) and prisoner health complaints. I refer the member to the attached table for the breakdown of these complaints by prison and category in the month of July 2024.
