Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Transport: Which Territorial Local Authorities and/or Public Transport Authorities, if any, applied for co-funding to run more frequent bus services, or larger bus networks, since 2024 and were denied some or all of the funding applied for due to priorities changing in the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport 2024-2034?

Hon Chris Bishop: While the Government Policy Statement 2024-34 reflects updated priorities, it continues to place strong emphasis on public transport. This is reflected in investment levels, with $6.4 billion allocated to public transport services and infrastructure through the 2024–27 National Land Transport Programme (NLTP), an increase from the $4.9 billion invested in public transport through the 2021–24 NLTP under the previous Government. The attached table identifies the organisations who submitted investment bids for public transport service improvements in the 2024-27 NLTP, broken down by bid outcome. Funding in the Public Transport services activity class is first applied to maintaining existing public transport services. The limited funding available for public transport services improvements required NZTA to prioritise between different bids.
