10259 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What new artificial intelligence or machine learning systems, tools, or platforms, if any, have been commissioned, contracted, or deployed by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by system name, supplier, purpose, contract value, and date of commissioning?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs: The Department has deployed two standalone systems where AI is the primary function or purpose as specified in the table attached. We are currently looking at other use cases for AI across the organisation, which have not yet been deployed. We are increasingly seeing AI being added to existing systems, making it difficult to identify what would be considered an AI system, tool or platform. The Classification Office: Nil. Fire and Emergency NZ: Please see attached table. Lotto NZ: Please see attached table. Lotto NZ AI tools are governed by the Data & AI Excellence Forum (DAiEF) and approved by our Information Security Management Steering Committee. Usage conditions include: • Only DAiEF-approved AI tools may be used. • Mandatory AI training required. • Human oversight required for all AI outputs. • Public/free AI tools are not approved by default.
