9935 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Education: How much has been spent on external communications, public relations, advertising, or media monitoring by each department or entity for which the Minister is responsible in each financial year since 2021/22, broken down by department or entity and by spending category?
Hon Erica Stanford: The information sought by the Member is not collated by the Ministry of Education and the Education Review Office in a way that is readily reportable in the timeframe available to respond to written parliamentary questions.
I am advised by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) that information relating to external communications, public relations and advertising costs was provided in response to Annual Review questions.
The amounts NZQA paid for media monitoring in each of these years was as follows:
• 2021/22: $12,318
• 2022/23: $13,800
• 2023/24: $14,520.
For 2024/25, NZQA spent a total of $112,927 on external communications and $14,520 on media monitoring.
For the 2025/26 year to 28 February 2026, NZQA has spent a total of $15,517 on external communications and $9,680 on media monitoring.
Education New Zealand’s (ENZ) expenditure on advertising, public relations campaigns, external communications and media monitoring since 2021/22 is provided in the attached table.
For the current financial year, ENZ is unable to collate the information sought by the Member within the timeframe available to respond to written parliamentary questions.
