9361 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What property leases, if any, have been entered into, renewed, or exited by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, address, annual rent, lease term, and whether the decision to enter, renew, or exit was part of a broader office consolidation programme?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs:
Please see table attached. Note, For lease term we have included the initial lease term to show at what point a renewal was taken.
DIA’s Estate Strategy was signed off in December 2025, and efforts are already underway to apply a consolidation approach to the property portfolio. To this end, two sites have been closed (Rattray St, Dunedin and Hastings St, Napier) with one small co-location entered into with another agency in Hastings. Further opportunities for consolidation are being actively explored, with several key operating model reviews enabling a future reduction in the number of sites occupied by the Department. As leases come up for renewal the Department will explore a range of options for each site, including consolidation – lease renewals will no longer be actioned by default.
