3706 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Police: What are the total costs of staff redundancies, if any, in the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies - or for any other staff for whom the Minister is responsible - between 27 November 2023 and 7 February 2025?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that between 27 November 2023 and 7 February 2025 there have been 42 redundancies from New Zealand Police – all of which come from non-sworn staff (NSS). These have been brought about by the Financial Sustainability Program, dealing with the financial pressures facing New Zealand Police. I refer the Member to the three attached tables, which show a breakdown of NSS affected by redundancies. Please note that ethnicity data is not always provided (it is optional) and people can self-identify with more than one, so the numbers may not seem to ‘add up’. The total gross redundancy/cessation payments for this group come to $2,570,862. This is also my response to Written Parliamentary Questions 3696 and 3707 (2025).
