1616 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: How many teachers were in training, or completed their training, every year from 2009 to 2025; broken down by year?

Hon Erica Stanford: I refer the Member to the attached tables showing: • Annual data on the number of domestic students who enrolled in their first initial teacher education (ITE) qualification in that year between 2009 and 2024. This is presented by indicative teaching sector. Please note that annual enrolment data for 2025 is not yet available. • Part-year data on the number of domestic students who enrolled in their first ITE qualification up to August in each year between 2016 and 2025. This is presented by indicative teaching sector. This up to August enrolment data for 2025 is the latest ITE data that the Ministry holds. Please note the part-year data in table two should not be compared to the annual data in table one as students start ITE programmes after August in each year. • Annual data on the number of domestic students who completed their first ITE qualification in that year between 2009 and 2024. This is presented by indicative teaching sector. This completions data for 2024 is the latest data available. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 1618 (2026).
