82410 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Agriculture: Due to the net reduction of 391 positions in MPI (including 102 redundancies between 27 November 2023 to September 2024), how is the Minister assessing the impacts that these cuts in Budget 2024 are having on New Zealanders?

Hon Todd McClay: I am advised the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) did not make any reductions to the delivery of direct frontline services and statutory roles, such as veterinarians, animal welfare, forestry managers, fishery and food compliance officers, or biosecurity teams at the border. Overall, I do not expect there to be any compromise to the delivery of essential services to New Zealanders.
