82380 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: How do the five targeted funding programmes for Māori agribusiness specifically contribute to Māori economic development?

Hon Nicola Grigg: MPI’s Māori Partnerships & Investment | He Taurikura Māori business unit administers five Māori agribusiness funding programmes. The programmes provide support and co-investment to help Māori landowners and primary producers to lift the productivity and profitability of their food and fibre assets. This contributes to Māori economic development, which in turn contributes to Māori social development, job creation and the prosperity of regional New Zealand. These programmes are: * Māori Agribusiness Pathway to Increased Productivity\(MAPIP) - lifting productivity of Māori whenua and primary sector assets *Māori Agribusiness Extension (MABx) – support for Māori primary sector clusters *He Ara Mahi Hou – workforce and capability development and governance training for Māori agribusinesses *Māori Agribusiness Innovation – exploring innovative primary sector products and processes *Māori Agribusiness Climate and Water Programme – maintaining farm profitability while lowering agricultural emissions These programmes exist to address the specific needs of Māori collectives and owners of Māori freehold land.
