82335 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister agree with PPTA President, Chris Abercrombie that the current curriculum rewrites could lead to curriculums becoming about culture war issues rather than about what was best to teach; if not, why not?
Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education is continuing work started by the previous Government to update both the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. The revised curriculum will be knowledge-rich, grounded in the science of learning, and clear about what to teach and when each year of schooling. This includes information on evidence-informed teaching practices.
It is important that New Zealand has an internationally comparable curriculum that is focused on excellence, and supports all students to develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in education, employment, and wider life.
