82329 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Health: What assessment, if any, has been conducted on the risk to patient safety arising from potential failures of Health NZ’s IT systems, and what measures are in place to mitigate these risks?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand has categorised its IT applications based on patient criticality, with additional focus and investment prioritised on critical clinical systems. Where practicable, investments and/or additional safeguards are being put in place to support patient critical systems. I am further advised that broader work to strengthen the digital ecosystem is being incorporated into the Digital Investment Plan, which is currently being prepared.
