82310 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections: In respect of Reply 78819 (2024), how many hours a day is the cell that is less than 6 square metres in area occupied on average?

Hon Mark Mitchell: As per my response to WPQ 82155 (2024), I am advised that the smallest cell in use, located at Invercargill Prison, is 6m2. I am further advised that while it is not possible to accurately confirm the average number of hours a cell of this size specifically has been occupied, during December 2024 prison cells across Invercargill Prison were unlocked for an average of 9-10 hours daily.
