82231 (2024). Shanan Halbert to the Prime Minister: What role(s) and responsibilities, if any, does the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet currently fulfil within the Auckland Policy Office, listed alphabetically?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: I am advised that the Auckland Policy Office (APO) is an initiative involving approximately 20 government agencies including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), working collaboratively to: • provide an Auckland perspective in the development of central government policy • identify and develop Auckland-specific policies that will promote Auckland and national economic growth • promote the involvement of central government in major regional development projects • develop links with key regional stakeholders including Auckland Council and Auckland’s business community • be a source of information about Auckland. The APO does not independently direct policy work. Instead, it provides a shared space that enables agencies to work in proximity, fostering collaboration on public policy and operational matters affecting Auckland. Policy work involving the DPMC and NEMA is carried out as part of its own mandate, in collaboration with other agencies as required. This work aims to strengthen policy advice of individual agencies.
