82175 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What is the Department’s response to the Ombudsman’s finding of deleted or missing body-worn camera footage during use-of-force incidents?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that the Corrections’ Chief Custodial Officer’s team has taken immediate steps to ensure there are now enhanced systems in place to manage recordings more effectively. On 5 January 2024, Corrections implemented a system of daily checks to ensure all recorded footage is allocated to the correct prison site, which are then required to allocate the footage to a staff member. Full training and guidance material has been provided to all required staff. It is my expectation that Corrections will continue to ensure that body-worn camera footage can be located when necessary, and ensure that all incidents involving use-of-force are proportionate and necessary in the circumstances.
