82142 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Agriculture: Regarding the ambitious target to double the value of exports in the next decade, specifically how does the Minister plan to achieve this goal?
Hon Todd McClay: The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Situation and Outlook for Primary Industries (SOPI) report forecasts New Zealand’s food and fibre exports to hit $56.9 billion by 30 June 2025 and climb to a record $58.3 billion the following year, showcasing the strength and resilience of the sector.
Growth in this sector will be an important aspect to achieving the Government’s goal, along with other parts of the economy. MPI has an eight point plan, to enable the sector to double the value of food and fibre exports by 2034, in line with the Government’s goal. This focuses on specific initiatives that have been identified with the sector to target opportunities to facilitate growth and reduce administrative burden or costs.
