82136 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Does the Minister consider the government response so far to bird flu H7N6 sufficient and if so, how so?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Yes. Biosecurity New Zealand has been preparing for HPAI for some time, including working with the Department of Conservation and health agencies, industry, local government and community groups to ensure New Zealand is prepared and able to respond to any possible outbreak of HPAI H5N1. This preparation was evident in the speed and efficiency with which BNZ responded to the H7N6 outbreak.
