82129 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: How, if at all, will the Minister ensure that future savings initiatives do not impact front-line workers in biosecurity roles?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) did not make any reductions to frontline services and statutory roles within Biosecurity New Zealand such as biosecurity teams at the border or scientists in the 2024 savings exercise. Biosecurity New Zealand is funded through a mix of border levies and fees and crown funding. MPI’s biosecurity teams at the border are funded through border levy revenue, and so were not subject to savings initiatives.
