Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Regulation: Does he believe that it would be better if the Ministry for Regulation did not support the proposed Regulatory Standards Bill, and if not, why did he tell The Post that "this Government is levelling the playing field whether the bureaucracy likes it or not. Come to think of it, it’s probably better if they don’t?"

Hon David Seymour: My comments expressed that sometimes the interests of New Zealanders and Government departments advice conflict, and it is the job of elected Ministers to identify and arbitrate any such conflicts.
