81866 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Does MPI have the funding capacity to meet the compensation (financial and non-financial) provided for workers support during the Covid-19 outbreak, in the event of an outbreak of bird flu?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Compensation is only available, under the Biosecurity Act, if MPI exercises powers for the purpose of eradicating or managing an organism which result in the damage to, or destruction of the person’s property. It may also relate to restrictions imposed by MPI on the movement or disposal of the person’s goods. Compensation funding is sought for each individual response as they arise.
