81819 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: Amid growing pressures on staffing and resources, how does the Minister intend to ensure essential biosecurity measures are effectively implemented without violating the Animal Welfare Act or compromising economic stability?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: MPI continuously prioritises what pests and diseases to monitor and respond to. MPI operates with the ability to deploy critical capacity and capacity to respond to any major pest and disease incursion. MPI employs Animal Welfare Inspectors, and Animal Welfare Emergency Management advisors, and On Farm Support regional advisors who are trained to monitor and support the compliance of the Animal Welfare Act. I am advised that MPI guidance to support biosecurity measures is developed to the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act.
