Hon Andrew Hoggard: Should it arrive, H5N1 HPAI is likely to become widespread in New Zealand’s wild bird population and eradication of the disease is unlikely. There are currently no specific plans to set any requirements for any industries following the arrival of H5N1. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), with support from its One Health partners, are providing guidance and advice to a range of stakeholder and interested parties to help prepare for H5N1.
