Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter July to September 2024 to ‘Implement workforce development initiatives to grow the Māori and Pacific workforce’ under Outcome 1: New Zealanders have a system that delivers consistent and modern cancer care, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the July to September 2024 quarter, Health New Zealand supported cultural competency training by continuing to invest in two pilot programmes. It also funded BreastScreen Aotearoa to deliver kaimahi training and development, including cultural competency training for cancer care coordination services.
