81040 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has occurred to achieve the initiative 'Progress digital solutions to reduce administrative burden, support opportunistic and agile immunisation delivery, enable strategic programme planning, provide accurate and current vaccination status information, enable individuals to self-manage vaccination needs, enable quality systems, and support clinical decision making' included on page 12 of High Level Implementation Plans - Achieving the Health Targets, as at 16 December 2024?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand introduced the Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) in December 2023 to store accurate immunisation records to support continuity of care; reduce administrative burden, and track vaccination coverage and gaps to inform interventions, opportunistic vaccinations, and flexible vaccination delivery.
I am further advised that during 2024, work focused on improving the functionality of the AIR vaccinator portal, including working with Primary Health Organisations and general practice to ensure accurate data transfer between the AIR and Patient Management Systems.
I am also advised that the remediation work has had a positive impact for childhood immunisation event recording, with the gap of events in a PMS but not in AIR having reduced.
In addition, AIR enables consumers to view their own immunisation records within My Health Record, which provides secure access to health information.
