80851 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: What specific protections, if any, will exist for new homeowners under the Government’s proposal is to allow self-certification for “trusted building professionals and accredited businesses” for building projects?
Hon Chris Penk: The self-certification scheme that the Government announced earlier in the year is being developed. Ensuring consumers are protected from defects is a key part of this work and I look forward to announcing more details in 2025. Specific protections could include a mix of requirements around insurance, or guarantees, and limiting the scheme to low risk work and businesses with a proven track record.
