Hon Erica Stanford: Since the tabling of the final report of the Royal Commission the Government’s focus has been on the delivery of the national apology, recognition for the survivors of torture at the Lake Alice Unit, and prioritising work on redress for abuse in care. An update on the 28 recommendations already progressed is available at https://www.beehive.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2024-11/Progress%20against%20Royal%20Commission%20Recommendations%20.pdf The Royal Commission took almost six years to deliver its final report. The final report contains 138 recommendations and many more sub recommendations. The interim report on redress contains a further 95 recommendations. Many of these are complex involve multiple Ministers and agencies. Cabinet is expected to consider the Royal Commission Response Plan in 2025. Responsible Ministers for individual recommendations will be agreed as part of that work. In the meantime, the member is welcome to direct her questions to whichever Minister she thinks most appropriate.
