80707 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Does the Minister, or her Office, receive text messages or calls immediately alerting to her any significant incident at Oranga Tamariki, if not why not?

Hon Karen Chhour: In line with paragraph 3.26(a) of the Cabinet Manual, under the “no surprises” principle I expect to be informed of matters of significance relating to Oranga Tamariki, particularly where these matters may be controversial or become the subject of public debate. This principle does not override the requirements for disclosing information under the Privacy Act 2020 and the Official Information Act 1982 (or other statutory restrictions).
