80694 (2024). Hon Phil Twyford to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade attempting to negotiate a prisoner transfer agreement in order to facilitate the release and repatriation of New Zealander Antony de Malmanche currently held in a Bali prison?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: No. Successive New Zealand governments have maintained a long-standing policy of not entering into prisoner exchange agreements. It is not possible under New Zealand law for people convicted of a crime overseas to be returned to New Zealand to serve their sentences.
