80581 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Associate Minister of Health: What steps has she taken, if any, to enable regular training of primary and community care providers on the health and wellbeing of older people, as recommended in Recommendation 12 of the Aged Care Commissioner's March 2024?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that there are a range of training and qualification opportunities available for primary and community kaimahi, including those who support the health and wellbeing of older people. I am further advised that an online programme is being developed that will enable carers to get recognition, via a Level 2 Health and Wellbeing Certificate, for the skills they perform as carers. In addition, Careerforce offers qualification pathways including the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing. I am also advised that the recently released Health New Zealand Health Workforce Plan has two priority actions that will help address Aged Care workforce shortages.
