78964 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Biosecurity: What additional resources, if any, are needed to enhance New Zealand’s biosecurity response capability for bird flu?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: MPI, the Department of Conservation, the Ministry of Health and Health New Zealand are working together in preparation for the possible arrival of H5N1 HPAI strain that is causing global concern. These agencies are taking a One Health approach which involves central government agencies working together with industry, local government community groups and other key stakeholders to prepare for and respond to an H5N1 HPAI outbreak.
The response to the H7N6 HPAI outbreak is still ongoing and this is being adequately resourced by MPI and the poultry industry. Resourcing for any future response to HPAI will be provided by One Health agencies, industry and other providers as appropriate.
