78958 (2024). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister for Food Safety: Does he stand by his statement that there is “no food safety risk as long as you cook the poultry and eggs properly as recommended” and if so, how does he define cooking eggs properly?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: There is no food safety risk as long as the poultry and eggs are cooked properly. New Zealand Food Safety has advised avian influenza viruses are sensitive to heat, therefore cooking eggs thoroughly ensures they are safe to eat.
