78762 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What steps has the Minister or Health NZ taken to address any data reconciliation issues between general practice management systems and the Aotearoa Immunisation Register since its implementation?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that work to improve data reconciliation and to resolve incomplete immunisations records is showing promising early results in addressing longstanding issues in the sector that have persisted over the last 15 years.
This work includes:
• Deploying the Fabric platform, which enables PHOs to provide reporting that helps Health New Zealand understand the percentages and characteristics of immunisation events that are different between the Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) and Patient Management Systems (PMS).
• Analysing discrepancies between the systems to understand the size of the gap caused by the missing records that are creating the issues.
• A feasibility study to determine how to extract missing files and routinely include them in AIR, and exploring options to get the data into AIR, whether via an automated process or manual data entry.
• Developing processes to manually reconcile immunisation coverage data for accurate health target reporting.
• On-going work to upgrade PMS systems and transition to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
