78707 (2024). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: How, if at all, does the use of carbon dioxide gassing method to mass cull chickens that tested positive for avian influenza (bird flu) at a chicken farm in North Otago, align with the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act 1999, specifically section 12(c) where it is an offence to kill “the animal in such a manner that the animal suffers unreasonable or unnecessary pain or distress”?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I refer the member to my response to WPQ 78706 (2024).
