78604 (2024). Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Transport: What consideration did he give to the financial impact, if any, on those who use public transport of the Government’s aim to increase the proportion of public transport expenditure funded from private revenue sources?

Hon Simeon Brown: There are a range of tools Public Transport Authorities can utilise to increase private share. I note that private funding was able to fund 40 percent of public transport in 2016/17, while in 2022/23 it funded less than 10 percent of the total cost. It is my expectation that NZTA will work closely with PTAs to implement plans for their regions.
