78524 (2024). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Conservation: What actions, if any, has the Minister taken on the concerns raised by advocates and local communities on the welfare of South Island kākā Charlie Girl?

Hon Tama Potaka: I have received advice from the Department of Conservation regarding South Island kākā Charlie, who noted they are working with a specialist wildlife vet regarding Charlie’s care, and that the Ministry for Primary Industries have investigated Charlie’s welfare and have not identified any concerns. Both my office and the Department have provided responses to correspondence received from external parties concerned about Charlie’s welfare. I have not taken further action as I am satisfied that the Department has this operational matter in hand.
