77180 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister for Biosecurity: Does the Minister or his office intend to issue an Exotic Caulerpa Controlled Area Notice for Waiheke Island?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Controlled Area Notices (CAN) are issued by a Chief Technical Officer under the Biosecurity Act 1993. Officials have been engaging with relevant stakeholders and partners regarding the possibility of a Waiheke CAN in the past months. Officials are considering whether or not there is sufficient justification for a CAN.
