77036 (2024). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What amendments, if any, will be made to the Animal Welfare Act 1999 to ensure exporters effectively manage animal welfare outcomes throughout the entire supply chain of live animal exporting?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: I intend to introduce a Bill into the House to amend the Animal Welfare Act 1999 in 2025. It will place a duty on exporters to manage animal welfare outcomes through the export process and require an approved Animal Welfare Export Plan prior to export. Animal welfare requirements will be able to be set out in regulations and a new regulatory tool – an animal welfare instrument – can be used to set technical requirements that will need to be followed.
