76996 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Associate Minister of Education: How many, if any, new and converting charter school applications were discussed with their relevant communities have been approved by the Authorisation Board, and of those that have been approved, how many applications were discussed with their relevant communities to determine their level of support; listed by new and converting charter school applications that have been approved, and whether the community was consulted?
Hon David Seymour: I am advised by the Charter School Agency that demonstration of the consultation undertaken with the community, and the level of community support, are requirements of the charter school application process. All sponsors who applied and have been approved to operate new charter schools were considered by the Authorisation Board to have undertaken a satisfactory level of consultation. This includes the first school to be announced, Mastery Schools New Zealand – Arapaki. Names of the remaining approved sponsors and the charter schools will be published in the NZ Gazette when contract negotiations have been concluded.
