76794 (2024). Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Police: Further to his letter dated 23rd September, what are the ‘other agencies’ playing a part in helping Police to identify and mitigate risk to the Rainbow community?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police engages and works with many agencies and groups on a number of different initiatives to help mitigate risk to the Rainbow Community on both a national and local level through the Diversity Liaison Officers network. The following are reflective of initiatives that are led at a national level, however other partnerships will exist at district level: • Police engage with the Cross Agency Rainbow Network (CARN) an attend their monthly meeting. • Police are working with the Law Commission to help manage potential risk during their 10-week public consultation on their Issues Paper relating to the HR Act 1993 and explicit protections for transgender and non-binary people, and those with innate variations of sex characteristics. • Police are working with Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora to help manage risk for their transgender health providers for when the MOH puberty blocker evidence brief and the gender affirming healthcare guidelines are released.
