76787 (2024). Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Police: How is the risk of ‘hate motivated’ behaviour against the Rainbow Community currently being mitigated or managed by Police?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police aims to mitigate the risk of hate motivated offending targeting Rainbow communities through a number of avenues. Te Raranga is a programme focused on the development of resources to: • Support victims, witnesses and communities to recognise and report hate-motivated offences. • Align partner agencies to work towards reducing the harm caused by hate. • Train Police staff to recognise and record hate-motivated offences if they occur. Additionally, Police are undertaking a number of activities specifically aimed at preventing hate-motivated harm to Rainbow communities, including: • Established working relationships and ongoing working groups with other Police workgroups nationally and locally to align and direct different functions to work effectively in the Rainbow Community space. • Adopting recommended external safety resources for Diversity Liaison Officers and the Community. • Upgrading the Diversity Liaison Officers Police website and intranet pages to make all resources more widely accessible. • Working with the Burnett Foundation and Grindr to add joint safety messing onto the Grindr app following reports of people using fake online profiles and arranging to meet people through the Grindr app, assaulting or threatening them, videoing and loading onto social media.
