76760 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to 72699 (2024), what specific tasks and duties regarding the safety of children in care, if any, are each of the new roles listed as established in the 2024 Oranga Tamariki restructure required to fulfil?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised that the safety of children in care work continues under the new structure. The changes made in relation to the Safety of Children in Care Unit were undertaken to enable the safety of children in care assurance work to continue to be undertaken but be better integrated into the end-to-end practice assurance and improvement system. The approach to monitoring all findings of harm and publicly reporting on this has continued into the new structure.
I am further advised that the Manager is responsible for leading the assessment of the safety of children in care. The Senior Advisors lead work around the provision of quality data, analysis and information to support quality assurance for Oranga Tamariki operational delivery and have responsibility for reviewing and reporting on harm to children in care, including review of all social work findings made for children in care. The Senior Analyst duties include support of the safety of children in care function through the maintenance and development of the existing methodology.
