76752 (2024). Hūhana Lyndon to the Minister of Health: Where has the $42 million reallocated baseline funds for the new doctors and nurses come from?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: In Budget 2024, the Government provided a funding uplift of $1.43 billion to help Health New Zealand improve the services it provides to New Zealanders. Since the Government's clear direction to cut wasteful spending, Health NZ is working to find efficiencies to ensure the best use is made of funding. This has enabled us to put more money where it matters most – in strengthening our clinical workforce by employing 50 new senior doctors as well as additional specialist nurses and other health professionals to provide New Zealanders with timely access to quality healthcare.
