76525 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: What, if any, Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care recommendation does the decision to establish a Child Protection Investigation Unit respond to?

Hon Karen Chhour: Corrected reply: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that the establishment of the Child Protection Investigation Unit doesn’t respond to a specific recommendation. The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions highlighted the need to do better and restore trust in the care system. The Child Protection Investigation Unit will contribute towards achieving that.
