76493 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Children: How many reports of concern have been made in respect of children at Gloriavale for each of 2022, 2023 and 2024?
Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that they have received the following volumes of reports of concern over the years 2022 to 2024: - 33 in 2022 - 55 in 2023, 32 of which were generated for a Mass Allegation Investigation - 80 in 2024, 57 of which were generated for a Mass Allegation Investigation Mass Allegation Investigations (MAIs) occur when there are allegations of harm involving a potential perpetrator or perpetrators and, because of the nature of the allegations and the access the alleged perpetrator(s) had to children or young people, the New Zealand Police and Oranga Tamariki need to look widely because of the possibility other children may have been harmed. Many reports of concern can be generated in a MAI even though in most cases, the children these reports of concern are about may not have been harmed. More information regarding MAIs is available on the Oranga Tamariki website at: https://practice.orangatamariki.govt.nz/our-work/assessment-and-planning/assessments/intake-and-early-assessment/core-assessment-phase/mass-allegation-investigations/.
