75582 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: What steps if any have been taken to ensure that where necessary detainees can dispose of menstrual products in a sanitary and dignified manner in court facilities?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that introducing sanitary disposal units into a cell can create health, safety and security risks. The New Zealand Police are exploring the provision of single use sanitary disposal bags, which can be provided to detainees to enable a dignified, hygienic, and safe disposal process. If successful, this method of disposal may also be used in court facilities.
