Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections: What steps if any have been taken to ensure that it is not necessary for detainees who are being transported to satisfy their bodily needs by "urinating into a small drain near one’s feet, while being able to be viewed on CCTV and handcuffed"?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that the drain on the floor of prison escort vehicles is not used, nor intended to be used, as a toilet facility. It is designed to enable the effective cleaning of the vehicles. I am further advised that prisoner escorts are limited to four hours at a time, with an opportunity to use toilet facilities prior and after each leg of the trip.
