Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Associate Minister of Education: Does the Associate Minister of Education agree with comments from educators, including one school principal with over 50 years teaching experience, stating that a driving factor behind truancy is the fact that some children live too far away from school, it is too unsafe to walk, or that their parents don’t have a car; if not, why not?

Hon David Seymour: Parents and caregivers are ultimately responsible for getting students to school. The Ministry may provide school transport assistance where distance or a lack of suitable public transport present a barrier to access. School Transport falls within the Minister of Education’s Portfolio. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 75573 and 75574 (2024).
