75529 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Conservation: Does the Government plan to set national targets under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and if so, how, if at all, will the Government consult with Māori and incorporate Māori expertise, perspectives and feedback?

Hon Tama Potaka: The Government set New Zealand's national targets as part of New Zealand's response to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in late September 2024. New Zealand's response to the GBF, including its national targets, are grounded in New Zealand's national biodiversity strategy: Te Mana o te Taiao - Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy 2020 (ANZBS), which was publicly consulted on before it was published in 2020. Included in this, Iwi, Hapū, whānau and Māori organisations provided advice and input to support development of the ANZBS in 2019/2020, including through a te ao Māori reference group.
