75199 (2024). Kahurangi Carter to the Minister for the Environment: Does she believe that New Zealand is currently doing enough to address the amount of waste, and the emissions from waste, that we produce every year, and why or why not?
Hon Penny Simmonds: There will always be more to do. The Government waste work programme includes increasing the waste disposal levy to disincentivise waste disposal and encourage those disposing of materials to divert or recycle; reviewing and updating Waste Minimisation legislation; investing in vital waste and resource recovery infrastructure through the Waste Minimisation Fund; and actions in the second emissions reduction plan. The waste sector is anticipated to be responsible for an important proportion of the emissions abatement delivered by the second emissions reduction plan.
