Hon Penny Simmonds: I am advised that Waste-to-energy is a broad term covering many feedstocks and processes such as using food scraps for biogas, burning wood residues at a sawmill, waste tyres in a cement kiln, or municipal solid waste for energy. How individual projects fit with waste minimisation objectives, their associated emissions, and byproducts, require assessment on a case-by-case basis.
